7 The Lord said to Noah, “Go into the boat with your whole family; I have found that you are the only one in all the world who does what is right. 2 Take with you seven pairs of each kind of ritually clean animal, but only one pair of each kind of unclean animal. 3 Take also seven pairs of each kind of bird. Do this so that every kind of animal and bird will be kept alive to reproduce again on the earth. 4 Seven days from now I am going to send rain that will fall for forty days and nights, in order to destroy all the living beings that I have made.” 5 And Noah did everything that the Lord commanded.
6 Noah was six hundred years old when the flood came on the earth. 7 He and his wife, and his sons and their wives, went into the boat to escape the flood. 8 A male and a female of every kind of animal and bird, whether ritually clean or unclean, 9 went into the boat with Noah, as God had commanded. 10 Seven days later the flood came.
11 When Noah was six hundred years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month all the outlets of the vast body of water beneath the earth burst open, all the floodgates of the sky were opened, 12 and rain fell on the earth for forty days and nights. 13 On that same day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. 14 With them went every kind of animal, domestic and wild, large and small, and every kind of bird. 15 A male and a female of each kind of living being went into the boat with Noah, 16 as God had commanded. Then the Lord shut the door behind Noah.
17 The flood continued for forty days, and the water became deep enough for the boat to float. 18 The water became deeper, and the boat drifted on the surface. 19 It became so deep that it covered the highest mountains; 20 it went on rising until it was about twenty-five feet above the tops of the mountains. 21 Every living being on the earth died—every bird, every animal, and every person. 22 Everything on earth that breathed died. 23 The Lord destroyed all living beings on the earth—human beings, animals, and birds. The only ones’ left were Noah and those who were with him in the boat. 24 The water did not start going down for a hundred and fifty days.
Thought for the day
It is hard to imagine what it was like to be around in Noah’s day, here you have this monstrosity of a boat, presumably built by one man, stocked with a years’ worth of groceries and feed. Then suddenly critters begin arriving on their own accord. All entering the ark in pairs. Some of these animals the edible / sacrificial (Clean) animals which entered the ark in 7 pairs. Where the unclean only one pair arrived. This is another great demonstration of God’s power, he told the animals what to do, and they obeyed. Then Noah had to wait in faith for seven days. Six of those days nothing happened, he just sat there camping in this weird boat/barn because God told him to.
On the Seventh day, God closed the door with Noah, his family, and the animals all in the ark; and it started to rain. The earth broke apart, and water flooded the surface from underneath, and from above, until the earth was completely flooded at 25 feet beyond the tallest mountain.
We have few, if any ships today, that could survive a tempest like the one that has to have occurred with the ark. This is where a man’s faith in action, combined with God’s promise saved a planet. When God calls us to action, he makes up for our deficiencies. Noah do nothing after accepting God’s offer of salvation, had Noah turned a blind eye towards God, mankind would have likely come to end that day.
From a geology standpoint, the flood is interesting. Some believe the earth tilted on it axis at this time, accounting for the transition of pre – flood water canopy and a perfect climate, to the seasons we have today. Some will say all the moisture being removed from the water canopy mentioned earlier in Genesis resulted in an ice age due to global cooling. Since that time, our atmosphere is working its way back to the pre – flood conditions. This warming is causing a rapid melting of the ice which is continuing today. This can be seen in the melting of the polar ice caps that we worry about currently. What we know for sure is the earth has been in a constant state of change since the flood. The earth will continue to warm up and change. Change that effects our homes, is inconvenient. Most of the global warming we hear about today has probably just now got out attention since just started recording it in the 19th century, and we now see the earth as a whole from above. The global warming fight can be left to those of little faith. God will not allow us to destroy our earth until it is time for it to be destroyed. Some of us may have to move from time to time as droughts, floods, earth quakes, volcanoes, and other perils visit us.
Whatever happens, I will trust the power and the mind of an eternal God over “Modern” science. We have to remember, we are viewing life through a window of 80 years or so. If we study codified climate science we might get back a couple of hundred years, though we have dis-proven most of those methods. If the earth is as old as old earth scientist say; placing our vantage point on a time line that goes back 20 billion years, our slice of visible time on that line would be about the size of this dot ” ”
In the end, we have to accept the biblical account of creation, the flood and the earth after the flood, if we believe God to be truthful. Plate tech tonics, and many of scientific theories can coexist with creation and the flood. Modern science though has made many assumptions that may prove to be incorrect down the road as science continues to expand its vision of time and technology.
Christians, can and should study science. They should be familiar with all the theories, but accept very little as fact, as facts change.
Today I have included a couple more great resources, yielding good food for thought.
Remember God is a merciful God, but to seek to do what is right in all things.

This is an excellent thought about how our continents came to be and supports the plate tectonics theory without calling the God a liar. Catastrophic Plate Tech Tonics
If you do not mind rejecting the biblical account of creation and the time line we laid in an earlier article from Adam to Noah, and the time line we know from Noah to Christ, and the time line from Christ until now. This Christian Physicist may appeal to you. He explains how our idea of a new earth is neither Biblical nor scientific. Dr. Steven Ball on Plate Tectonics I link to documents that I disagree with at times, so that we can be educated on Christian viewpoints, Secular Christian viewpoints, and at times even Humanist viewpoints.
