11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. – Get the whole book on Bible Gateway.
Here, God adjusted the earth so that the water would settle to a lower area exposing dry ground. The dry ground he covered in veggies and greens so that there would be something for us all to eat when it is our turn to be created. Notice the vegetation does not initially come from a seed, it is already old enough to bear its young. Some trees, may even be thousands of years old, but yet just came into existence on the third day of creation. God set the plant life cycle to produce plants that made new plants just like themselves. God does not seem to be big on this idea of evolution. He made the world, just the way he wanted it.
